The Frugal Homestead

Helping You Manage Your Home Frugally and Efficiently

View a Comet in March!

The comet PANSTARRS (C/2011 L4) came closest to the sun on the 10th, but should be visible to the naked eye on clear nights for the rest of the month.

Look to the west, low on the horizon about 30 minutes after sunset. You will need to find a place without any buildings or trees, etc blocking your view of the horizon. On the 12th and 13th, the comet will pass near the crescent moon. As the days go by, the comet will move north, so viewers further north will have more time to catch the show.

Planes, Trains & Automobiles

I meant to write about this incident sooner, but......:)

Unless you are a mechanic or like to do things yourself, most likely your husband took care of the car maintenance.  My husband always insisted on doing oil changes himself.

Fast forward 2 1/2 years and now I take my car to get maintenance done.

Recently I took my car to get an oil change and possibly an alignment.  I left with all that and (4) four new tires.  My tires were in really bad shape, hence the alignment.

This is what amazes me about God.  I was driving later that week 1000 miles to Pennsylvania.  I would have gone on bald tires!  WOW!

I had a coupon that the garage had texted me for Buy 3 Tires, Get One for $1 too.  So, even though I had never made decisions like this before, God saw me through.  Sometimes you have to make a decision to the best of your ability and then move on.

This blog is changing.  The focus that is....

I will still be bringing good deals, frugal DIY & tips, healthy and simple living, but from a widow-single mom perspective.

My precious husband, Bill, passed away 2 1/2 years ago at the ripe old age of 56 years old.  He left us suddenly in a freak accident, leaving behind 5 kids (3 at home) and me.  As horrible as this sounds, I want to tell you about how we have survived and even thrived with God's amazing love and provision.

So, join me on my journey of picking up the pieces ( I am still looking for some of them), and making a new life.  It is just me and my 10 year old son now.  My 24 year old son has his own place now, and my 22 year old daughter got married last year.

It still hurts at times and there are many challenges (opportunities), but we are doing well and are extremely blessed.

Blessing Bags

Here is a great idea for Blessing Bags.  These are bags that you stash in your car to give to Homeless folks.

We are definitely going to be doing this.
